A CONTROVERSIAL application to convert a barn near a shooting club into a home has been deferred by councillors.
The application by Freda Longstaff to convert the barn in Mickleton was deferred by Teesdale District Council in order to obtain legal advice and noise measurements.
Planning officers were concerned that noise from nearby Mickleton Gun Club could constitute a statutory nuisance to future residents of the barn.
Councillor Phil Hughes suggested the council deferred a decision until legal advice could be obtained about voluntary agreements occupants of the barn may be able to sign to safeguard the future of the gun club. He also suggested noise readings should be taken inside the barn.
