SCHOOLBOY rugby star Mathew Tait enjoyed a dream debut to his professional career on Sunday, scoring a try for Newcastle Falcons with his first touch of the ball.
The 18-year-old centre, of Wolsingham, has been hailed as a star in the making after impressing Falcons' fans with his speed and skill.
Mathew signed for the club last week and took time off from his A level studies at Barnard Castle School to play at Kingston Park.
He recently returned from a month in South Africa helping the England Under-19 squad to fourth place in the Junior World Cup.
Mathew started his rugby career as a seven-year-old at Consett, playing for Durham County schools, the North of England and then England under-16s, under-18s and the Junior National Academy.
He now plans to finish his studies before spending the summer building on his fitness and strength ready for his first full season at senior level.
