Stockton were the first team to win a trophy this season, following their victory in the Final of the Meredith Trophy. Frankland were their opponents in an entertaining match, played at Norton.
The first was very even with few chances for either team. Chris Green scored from close range in the 18th Minute for Stockton, following a good save by Lambert. After the interval, Stockton appeared to raise their game and Frankland found themselves outplayed. First, Liam Denny converted following a good run by Rukin.
Then Rukin himself surged through from the halfway line, cutting through the Frankland defence before coolly slotting the ball past the keeper.
With another swift break, Denny picked out Green at the far post and he took his second goal with aplomb. Frankland are never a team to give up and their persistence was repaid when Steve Devon flicked the ball home for a consolation goal. The victory was just reward for the efforts of Lee Cooke in managing to gather together a good squad of players.
The contestants for the League Cup Final have been decided with Durham HQ and Tyne & Wear Fire Brigade due to lock horns. The HQ team ensured their place with a 6-3 victory over ten man Durham Fire. Derek Knighton scored four times on his debut for HQ but he will not be available for the Final. Ellis Hall and Mick Button scored the other goals.
Tyne & Wear destroyed Newcastle West 8-1 in the other semi final. Richie Biggs led the way with a hat trick, whilst Andy Nelson and Kevin Farrell bagged a brace apiece. Paul Russell completed the scoring. Paul Kindon's goal was of little consolation to the Newcastle team who have promised so much this season and failed to deliver the goods.
