A GROUP of German students will bid farewell to Darlington today after spending a fortnight in the town to improve their English.
The 17 teenagers, from Schulzeutrum Lerchenstrasse School, in Bremen, have been staying at the Dalesman Hotel, in Victoria Road, while on work experience at different companies in the area.
Gundis Wilms, the pupils' language teacher, said: "This is the third year we have arranged the visit and the students have enjoyed it very much.
"We are a bi-lingual school so this gives them the chance to improve the language and learn by doing. They've all had a good time."
Soner Boga, 15, who did a placement at The Northern Echo, said: "It was very interesting to work at The Northern Echo because there was something different to do every day.
"You hear real-life English rather than the English you hear in school and you are forced to speak it because there is no teacher there."
The students did work experience at places including BBC Radio Cleveland, the Imperial Express restaurant, the Dolphin Centre and Gulp Caf.
A farewell party will take place this evening in Gulp before the youngsters fly back to Germany.
