TWO days of activities and attractions to mark the anniversary of VE Day are taking place in Newton Aycliffe this weekend.
The event, to mark the official surrender of Germany at the end of the Second World War, will be held at the town's Scout Hut in Bluebell Way tomorrow and Sunday.
Organisers have invited Aycliffe Angels, who worked in the town's munitions factory during the war, and war veterans to join in the celebrations.
The Mayor of Great Aycliffe, Councillor Malcolm Iveson, and Sedgefield Borough Mayor Councillor George Gray will open the event at 1pm tomorrow.
Volunteers from the Newton Aycliffe Scout Supporters Association will be kitted out in authentic uniforms of the day.
Attractions will include Second World War and Army vehicles and classic vehicles from the time.
The Territorial Army will have a display and the 102 REME pipe band will provide music.
Local singers will perform songs from the 1940s and there will be games for children in the car park.
A big screen in the centre will show wartime videos, including footage of fighter planes.
The celebrations will continue on Sunday from 1pm.
