The championship will not be decided till the final game of the season on Saturday when Bishop Rugby Club entertain West Auckland Queens Head. With a superior goal difference Queens Head will be favourites and need only draw whilst Rugby Club must win.
The trophy looked to be on the way to West Auckland Queens Head when Wayne Nicholson gave them the lead against Coundon and Leeholme Juniors. But an own goal from Stephen Thompson made it 1-1 and Coundon took all three points when David Tonner scored a second own goal.
Howden Australian were under strength for the visit of Bishop Rugby Club who romped to a 6-0 win. David Evans, Stephen Robinson, Michael Houlahan, Matthew Tyrie, David Foggon and John Paul Collinson scored for Rugby Club to keep their title hopes very much alive.
Darren Fletcher scored four for Stanhope Town who beat Stanley United 5-1 in their final league game.
Evenwood White Swan came back from 3-1 down to beat Byers Green St Peters while West Auckland Queens Head won their second trophy of the season in beating Howden Australian in the final of the Albert Vickers Cup. Martin Robinson (3), Andrew Sugden, Paul Bailes and Wayne Nicholson scored for Queens Head in a 6-1 win which retained the trophy they won last year.
Bishop Rugby Club failed to win their second trophy when Brandon Prince Bishop beat them in the final of the South Durham Bowl. The Rugby Club had better chances but lost out to the only goal of the game.
