ONE of the sporting highlights of the summer came early to a school in North Yorkshire this week.
Le Cateau Primary School, in Catterick Garrison, linked up with Midlands firm Sport By Design for a day of Olympic-themed events to help with numeracy and knowledge of the world.
The youngsters tested their reflexes on the Batak board, pitting their hand-eye co-ordination against a computerised system of flashing lights.
They also held a sprint race linked to a photo-electric camera and digital timer and workshops focused on cultural and sporting issues linked to the Olympic Games in Greece.
"Healthy lifestyles and keeping children active is very much on the agenda for parents, teachers and the Government as well," said Sport by Design spokesman, Richard Glazebrook.
Headteacher at Le Cateau Primary School, Graham Shepherd, said: "With the decline in fitness levels among youngsters today, it is important to raise levels of physical activity in the school and encourage healthier lifestyles."
