YOUNG readers are on a literary mission to find the most popular children's book.

The Chatterbox junior reading club for five to 11-year-olds, which meets at Durham County Council's Clayport Library, came up with the idea.

Nomination papers have been sent to all schools in the county and a top 60 book list has been compiled.

Voting is now under way to choose the winner and whoever nominates or votes for the top book could win a £25 book token.

The closing date for entries is May 28.

The Chatterbox Club meets every third Saturday. Young members also help choose books for the library and have the chance to meet famous authors.

Recently they met cult author Garth Nix and local award-winner David Almond.

Chatterbox is one of a number of regular events at the Clayport Library which also runs pre-school sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays at 11am for all carers and children.

Focus groups meet on the last Tuesday (3pm to 4pm) and Thursday (7pm to 8pm) of the month.

Weekly storytime sessions are held on Saturdays at 11am.
