TONIGHT'S eagerly-awaited Sting concert has been cancelled after the superstar contracted a throat infection.
A spokesman for Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle said: "We have unfortunately been informed by the event promoter that the Sting concert scheduled for this evening will not now be going ahead.
"Sting is suffering from a throat infection, and after consultation with his doctors, it has been decided he is unable to perform.
"Shows for today in Newcastle and tomorrow and Sunday in other venues are therefore now postponed."
The concert will hopefully be rescheduled to October or November this year.
All tickets currently held will be valid for the rescheduled date.
The spokesman said: "On behalf of the artist, promoter and the Metro Radio Arena, may we apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused, by circumstances out of our control."
