A SOLIDER who was left fighting for her life after she was seriously injured in Iraq has given birth to her first child.
Corporal Jane McLauchlan gave birth to 7lb 13oz Nathan Maddison in hospital in Osnabruck, Germany, on April 25.
Cpl McLauchlan, who serves with the Royal Military Police in Germany, suffered severe head injuries, a punctured lung, broken ribs, leg and pelvis and a damaged liver in a road accident outside Ramala in May last year.
The 33-year-old, from Hartlepool, was thrown from the Land Rover she was driving at the head of a convoy, after it was hit by a US Army vehicle and overturned.
After a stay in a US hospital in Kuwait, she was flown to Britain by the RAF, before she was transferred to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, in Birmingham, where she underwent a lifesaving operation to remove a blood clot from her brain.
Now, instead of dwelling on what happened last year, Mrs McLauchlan and her husband, Rob, can look to the future.
She said: "He is a miracle baby. I am so very lucky.
"After what I went through, I have now given birth to a baby just a year later and I am back to full health. Who could be luckier?"
