Just about the entire programme on the opening day of the season was washed out and just one game went ahead, writes Malcolm Pratt.
Norton, managed to stage their fixture with The Merlin and were rewarded with a narrow victory following a low-scoring match.
Batting first, Norton realised 108 for eight which included 38 by opener Watson. P Burdon took three for 16 when he opened the attack and G Burdon returned four for 21 coming on as second change for The Merlin.
When they replied the visitors made an indifferent start but G Burdon almost won the game with a mid-innings contribution of 34.
In the end, though the bowling of Williamson and Brookes proved decisive. First change Williamson captured four for just 39 while Brookes had the best figures of the game ending with five for 35.
All other games were cancelled but the fixture between Boosbeck and Staithes, which had been postponed earlier in the week, will be played at a later date.
