Paul Davison of Spennymoor, has been out of the professional ranks for over seven years but returned with a bang when he won the eighth Senior Ranking Tour event by beating ex-Main Tour player, Wayne Cooper 4-2 in the final.
This lifts Davison up to ninth in the rankings, a great achievement brought about by his revived interest and weekly match practice in the Premier League.
However Davison's delight was short lived when he visited John McCallum at Ashington for after taking the fist frame on a fluked pink followed by a decisive black, the home player took over. A 63 break in the second for McCallum levelled the scores. Davison then only took 19 points out of the next four frames, with McCallum making a 67 in the fifth. The final two frame were safety dominated and highly tactical but McCallum took both to complete a 6-1 victory.
David Craggs of Tow Law came close to beating the high break for the League when he knocked in 97 at Whitley Bay against Chris West in the fourth frame, just missing the black off the final red as he tried for a difficult positional shot to take the yellow and hopefully complete a 131. The first two frames were shared with West going ahead with the third. After the 97 and the break, Craggs came back after the interval and took the final frames with a display of consistency, currently unsurpassed in the league to present and remains in top spot.
Gary Wilson, the Wallsend Wizard made a great recovery at home to beat the visiting David Lilley, who led 3-0 with breaks of 59, 66 and 47. Wilson cut the deficit in the fourth with a 32 break, which gave him the frame by 12 points but also lifted his confidence. A rejuvenated Wilson returned after the break to take the fifth and then posted breaks of 62 and 56 to add the sixth. In the decider, Wilson put in a decisive 34, which completed his winning recovery.
The matches, Mike Dunn against Andy Craig and Michael Rhodes against Michael Rudd, were both postponed.
