The Men's Scratch Team, looking very smart in their new Club Strip sponsored by Turners of Sedgefield, put in a sterling performance to gain a narrow 8-6 victory over hosts, George Washington GC.
There were good wins 4&3 by Tony Stafford and James Ivil. Newcomer Peter Moralee scored a 2&1 victory.
Both Shaun Goad & Lee McCavanagh did well to come from behind to halve their matches. Lee finished by winning the last two holes in virtual pitch darkness.
Des Parker & Dale Nelson with 44pts and a Best Back 3 won the Mick Clay Random Pairs Competition on Saturday 1st May 2004, with Chris Ashton & Lee Wren second on the same score. Jon Hunter & Phil Sutton were 3rd on 43pts
15-year-old, 6 handicap, Mark Borsberry showed everyone the way home with a stunning victory in the Directors Cup Medal, posting a magnificent nett 68. He just pipped David C. Brown who also scored a nett 68 but lost on a back nine countback. Mark Sweeney claimed 3rd place with a nett 70.
The Ladies Section Medal 1 & Help the Aged Qualifier on Sunday 2nd May 2004 was won appropriately, by ardent charity fundraiser Lesley Mullen with a Nett 73. Lesley now qualifies for the Regional Finals at Fulford GC on August 9, 2004.
Anita Maxwell pipped Chris Quinn to second place on a better back 9, both finishing on Nett 75.
Fine Bank Holiday weather greeted the 24 pairs who contested the May Day Bader Cup Qualifier Mixed Competition. Played to a Greensome Stableford format, the husband and wife team of Gerry & Vivien Fitzsimons came out on top with 43 points. Viv's putter working wonders as she single putted nearly every green. Gerry & Viv go on to represent Woodham at the Regional Finals of the Bader Cup at Darlington GC in August. Another husband and wife pairing, Phil & Jean Sutton were runners-up on 40points, with Tony Christey & Liz Nelson on the same score losing out on second place on a back 9 countback.
