Wet wickets were not conducive for run making and there were some low scores with Haughton managing only 42 on their visit to Middleton St George in Division A, writes Malcolm Pratt.
Tahir claimed four wickets for five runs and Hussein had figures of four for 14 in the home attack.
Batting first Middleton St George posted 127 for seven which included 32 by Bainbridge, 34 from Ayub and 30 by Gemmerson. David Edwards was the most successful bowler in the Haughton attack taking three wickets for 36 runs and David Keane had two for 47.
Catterick Village were sent back to the pavilion for 72 when they hosted Barton. Forcett picked up three wickets for five runs as Barton used no fewer than seven bowlers in their attack. Both Walsh and Bell captured two wickets apiece before Barton went on to win by seven wickets.
After losing three wickets relatively cheaply Barton edged to victory with an unbroken fourth wicket partnership between Kearney (17no) and Miller (21no). Two of the three wickets to fall were taken by Taylor at a cost of 31 runs.
Cockerton were another side to struggle for runs and they managed only 75 losing by seven wickets at Ingleton. Banks conceded only 21 runs taking four runs, Mellor had three for 18 and Gammack two for 21.
Ingleton had few problems and opener Wood (32) was quickly joined by Stuart Dawson who carried his bat for 25 as victory was achieved for the loss of just three wickets.
Cliffe were restricted to 84 at Raby Castle who won by 49 runs. Batting first the home side managed 133 all out which included 23 by Berry, 26 from Scaife, 25 by West and 24 from Hedley. Adamson was the most successful Cliffe bowler returning four for 33 while Curry and Waters took two wickets each.
When they went into bat Cliffe were soon in trouble and stuttered to 84 all out as Dent returned the excellent analysis of five for 22 and Jones claimed three for 34.
Runs were more plentiful at Witton-le-Wear where Heighington posted 190 losing just three wickets. Opener Riley batted throughout for an unbeaten 101 and Wilson contributed 49.
When Witton-le-Wear went into bat they managed just 111 of which opener Crisp scored 44. Allen had a good day with the ball for Heighington returning four for 47 and both Boocock and Overfield claimed two wickets.
Rockliffe Park made a respectable 166 all out but still lost by five wickets at home to Barningham whose match winner was Mossford with an undefeated 98. Three of the five wickets to go down were credited to Swanwick for 31 runs.
When Rockliffe Park made first use of the wicket they were indebted to Wheeler for his half-century and to Garbutt (33) while for Barningham no bowler did better than French with the excellent figures of six for 48. Mossford gave support with four for 75 and after scoring an undefeated 98 took the man of the match honours.
In Division B Brompton-on-Swale were sent back for just 80 by Middleton Tyas for whom Rommell captured six wickets for a miserly 18 runs. No fewer than 30 of the Brompton total were scored by Atkinson.
When Middleton Tyas took first innings they ended with 156 for three on top as opener Wilkinson batted throughout ending with 84 not out. His partner Wiper contributed 37.
Spennithorne and Harmby had 35 runs to spare at Heighington despite making only 115 as Forcett claimed seven wickets for 45 runs. Top performer for the visitors was opening batsman Tunstall with 30 while Fowler added a useful 24 later in the order.
Heighington managed only 80 all out as Grieves captured five wickets for 19 runs and Burton took two for 14.
Aldbrough St John defeated Dales by 92 runs. Following an indifferent start to their innings Aldbrough recovered mainly through the efforts of Mathias with 47 and Murphy who ended unbeaten on 46. Walford added 23 and Hoyle 27 and in the Dales attack Hutchinson took five of the seven wickets to fall for 54 runs. The other two wickets were credited to Simpson at a cost of 84 runs.
When they replied Dales could only make 83 as Murphy and Cunnachie had identical figures of three for 13 and Hoyle took two for 15.
Middleton-in-Teesdale only managed 113 but still defeated Trimdon CCA by 35 runs. The visitors were back at the pavilion with just 78 runs on the board of which Churlish scored 25. Coatsworth was in excellent form with the ball for Middleton taking five for 35 and Watson had equally impressive figures of three for nine. The other two wickets were taken by Watson at a cost of 29 runs.
When they batted first Middleton ended on 113 and most of the runs came from Watson with 51. Peacock was in good form with the ball for Trimdon CCA ending with five for 38 and Watchman took two for 31.
East Cowton lost by just one wicket at Eryholme. Walker was in magnificent form with the ball for Eryholme and when he took eight wickets for 30 runs the home side were all out for 112 which included 37 by Tucker.
Responding Eryholme had to work hard for victory which was achieved when Robson Jnr batting at number nine, carried his bat for 27 out of a total of 116 for nine. Whitfield with five for 55 and Tucker four for 58 bowled unchanged and almost pulled the game out of the fire for East Cowton.
In Division C Haughton fielded an extremely young side against Lands and despite giving a promising performance lost by three runs. John Little top scored with 38 as Lands reached 130 despite Jamie Irving returning four for 31 and Michael Lunn two for 38. Gary McGuire captured one wicket and the more experienced Brian Dobison, captain for the day in the absence of Ian Burgess, chipped in with a couple of wickets at a cost of 25 runs.
When they replied Dobison led the way scoring 71 and 15-year-old Sam Bainbridge was out with just three balls remaining for 28 as the innings produced 127 for eight.
Haughton fielded just one senior player and included two under 18 and eight players under the age of 15.
In other matches Aldbrough restricted Barningham to 50 and won by six wickets, King James overtook the Barton total of 49 with four wickets in tact and Raby Castle finished 35 runs ahead of Cliffe who managed only 54 replying to a target of 79.
Trimdon Colliery and Deaf Hill won by nine wickets against neighbours Trimdon CCA who were dismissed for 44.
