A BEAUTY contest has proved so popular that organisers have extended the deadline for entries.
More than 50 entries have been received for the Miss Durham competition, the final of which will be held at Sedgefield Racecourse during its Ladies' Night fixture on May 25.
The closing date to enter the contest, revived after a gap of several years, is now next Friday, and 20 finalists will be selected after an audition at the racecourse on Monday, May 17.
Organisers are looking for sponsors for each finalist, who will wear a sash with the logo of a company or organisation throughout the Miss Durham finals.
The finalists will appear in the parade ring throughout the evening and will take part in three themed rounds.
The first will see finalists parading in their choice of football team kit, followed by racing attire and club wear.
Finalists will be interviewed by the evening's compere, who will try to provide the judges with an insight into each girl's personality.
The panel will then decide on a winner, who will collect more than £5,000-worth of prizes and qualify for the Miss England contest final.
To enter or to sponsor the girls, call (01740) 621925.
