YOUNG bookworms will have a greater choice of reading material thanks to the fundraising efforts of staff from their local branch of Woolworths.
Each of the company's stores are challenged every year to raise as much money as they can for their chosen cause.
Potential beneficiaries are invited to submit testimonies explaining why they should be picked and, during the past 12 months, Wavell Primary School, in Catterick Garrison, has been the focus of staff from the Richmond store.
Yesterday, they visited the school to hand over a cheque for £1,626, which will pay for books for a new library.
"The money was raised through a series of events such as raffles, but we are delighted with the amount we were able to donate," said Woolworth's spokeswoman Michaela Paterson.
Deputy headteacher, Mike Hardman, said the building work on the library would be completed soon.
"Obviously, we are extremely grateful to Woolworths for ensuring we will be able to fill the shelves with new books,'' he said.
