Eighty overs were possible at Stockton where Newcastle replied with 104-2 from just 29 overs to the home side's total of 152-9 compiled in 51 overs.
Richard Waite, who has made a good start to the season, contributed 36 and Guy Darwin an unbeaten 50 with one six and six fours but the introduction of Lindsay Cullen into the Tynesiders' attack restricted the scoring.

When Norton took first innings, Nicky Beall was another batsman among the runs, making 85 and Craig Symington struck 31 before being run out as a total of 197-8 was posted.
Wayne Falla batted throughout Tynemouth's reply and in partnership with Graeme Hallam (24 not out), led the Seasiders to an impressive 149-1 in the home game with Philadelphia. Falla was undefeated on 88.
Batting first, Phili eventually realised 210-8 following the good start by Durham County's James Lowe with 61 and Paul Riddle (48). Youngster Berwick Hall showed form carrying his bat for 25 and for Tynemouth, Barry Stewart was among the wickets ending with figures of 3-53.
Sunderland had made 30 conceding just one wicket at Gateshead Fell when the weather intervened. They needed 133 after James Foster had top-scored with 34. Simon Brown captured four of the wickets for just 18 runs.
South Northumberland, whose previous game was the only one to be cancelled last week, fared little better when their fixture with Chester le Street was quickly abandoned with the South North total on 43-1.
No play was possible at Blaydon where Durham Academy were the visitors.
