Foster's Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League Review: Shotley Bridge stole a march on their rivals when their game with Benwell and Walbottle was the only one to go the distance.
Three failed to start and the other two were quickly abandoned but The Spa escaped the worst of the elements and Shotley celebrated, recording their first win of the season.
A well-varied five-man attack restricted the visitors to 123 with seven balls of the 50 overs remaining. Phil Brown was the most successful bowler, taking 3-22 from 9.5 overs before the former Durham County opener David Jackson and Philip Taylor led the reply.
The pair added 114 runs before they were separated.
Taylor's 40 included three boundaries, while Jackson built his score up to 69 with four sixes and seven fours.
Leadgate restricted Ashington to 82-7 with Stephen Robinson, Bilal Rana and Masood Mirza doing the damage and at Newcastle City, Annfield Plain were 74-4 from 28 overs when their game also became a victim of the weather.
An encouraging feature from City's point of view was the form of Pav Kumar who claimed three of the four wickets to fall for 28 runs in 11 overs.
In Division A2, Morpeth and Ryton both won. Seaton Burn totalled a healthy 209-7 at Longhirst with Kevin Corby making 72 and Carr an unbeaten 32.
Turnbull (39) and Cosstick (74) formed a productive partnership for Morpeth's second wicket and a useful 36 by Brown eased the home team to a three-wickets victory, despite Ian Smart (3-23) producing form in the Seaton Burn attack.
Ryton bowled out Blyth for just 99 with Atkinson claiming five wickets for a mere 35 runs. Batting first, the home team made 175-8 which included 36 by Neil Robinson and a half century from Keith Morris.
Alnwick's game with Ponteland had just started when the rain intervened and there was no play at either Burnopfield or Greenside.
