RISING star Ashlea Pearson was last night celebrating after winning her way through to the finals of a popular television talent show.
The 13-year-old, from Birtley, near Chester-le-Street, will be flying the flag for the North-East when millions of viewers watch her take part in the live finals of ITV's Stars in Your Eyes Kids, on Saturday.
Ashlea, who beat off competition from 10,000 youngsters to be on the show, wowed the audience when she took on the role of Gloria Estafan, singing the hit One, Two, Three.
She said last night: "I am delighted. I was really nervous on the night, but everyone was so nice.
"It was special watching it being televised with my family and friends.
"Some of them did not want to know the result and it was nice to see their faces and reactions when they saw me get voted to the final.
"I am confident and excited about next week. I'm not yet nervous, but I will be when I get there."
Ashlea, who attends Lord Lawson of Beamish School, in Birtley, said: "I have always wanted to be a professional singer.
"I hope that whether I win the final or not this will help towards my musical career."
Ashlea has been singing since she was five and going to lessons since she was eight. She has made numerous appearances on stage and last November organised a charity concert for Children in Need at Birtley's Royal British Legion Club.
Her mother, Christina Archer, said: "I am as proud as punch. I thought her transformation to Gloria Estefan was fabulous.
"I have always been an Estefan fan and have been to a few of her concerts.
"Ashlea grew up listening to her music and watching her videos. As soon as she could walk she used to dance to the music. And she shares her birthday with the star - September 1."
Ashlea's repertoire also includes Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Tina Turner and Cher.
Peter Skeen, 15, of Marley Hill, Gateshead, who appeared with Ashlea, did not make it to the finals but can still be voted on by the viewers.
