SUPERMARKET workers are hoping to make a difference by getting involved in community projects.
Staff at the Asda store in Bishop Auckland are looking for a community-based scheme that needs help with a new project, so they can volunteer their support.
Events co-ordinator John Bowman said: "This can be anything from designing and building a community garden, redecorating a scout hut or town hall, making a children's play area, brightening up an old folks' home, clearing up a hospital - literally anything.
"The whole idea is to make an area used by local people more usable, somewhere people would be proud of and want to use."
Nominations for appropriate projects are being sought from community groups.
Mr Bowman said: "We need an informal letter including photos of what the area looks like now, with an idea of what the group is looking for."
The closing date for nominations is June 1, when a project will be chosen.
All entries should be posted to the store or handed in at the customer services desk for the attention of the events team. For more information contact (01388) 600200.
