MOTORISTS are being urged to take up a cut-price deal offering added security against thieves this week.
Residents of Darlington will be able to buy steering wheel locks for £40, instead of the usual price of £80, at the Morrison's supermarket, at Morton Park, on Thursday and Friday.
The Diskloks initiative is part of Darlington police's efforts to reduce car crime. A similar sale proved successful earlier this year.
Police will be at the supermarket from 10am to 1pm each day, with the Diskloks being sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
PC Steve Rich said police would also be selling a door intercom system that could be invaluable to elderly or vulnerable people. The device allows people to communicate with callers without having to open their doors. It will be available for £9.
PC Rich said: "It should give people a great deal of confidence and peace of mind that they don't have to deal with people face-to-face if they don't want to."
