A healthy drinks bar is proving a hit with pupils at a north Durham school.
The dining hall at Greencroft School, in Annfield Plain, near Stanley, has been revamped as part of a drive to provide more healthy meal options.
Fizzy pop has been taken off the menu and replaced with a milk bar serving milkshakes, water and fruit juices. It has been a success with pupils and is selling an average of 700 drinks a day.
The project was a partnership between the school and catering group Scolarest. The company has transformed the hall into a bistro with beech and chrome tables and chairs, and a bright blue colour scheme.
Through the school council, pupils chose the designs and colours, along with the seating plan, working with Scolarest operations manager Paula Dawson.
As well as the milk bar, there is also a deli bar serving the school's 800 pupils, selling made-to-order filled baguettes, rolls and ciabatta, and boxed salads.
Headteacher Chris Espiner said: "I have been delighted with the partnership between ourselves and Scolarest.
"The quality of our dining hall is now second to none and we are both keen to keep it that way."
