WITH European elections looming, an east Durham school is to stage its own mock poll.
In an attempt to spark interest in politics, Easington Community School is to invite figures from the three main parties to address pupils.
Jon Gregory the school's head of religious education, is organising the elections and has asked Easington MP John Cummings (Labour), Martin Callanan (Conservative) and Carol Woods (Lib Dem) to speak for five minutes each before school assembly on May 26.
The aim is to raise awareness of how politics shapes lives. The school will hold a mock election on June 10, complete with specially printed ballot papers.
