Norton and Stockton Ancients: Norton & Stockton Ancients Under-10s won at Haggerston Castle for the second year running. Norton were unbeaten in all the group stage matches, winning four and drawing one.

On the first day Norton started their campaign with a tremendous 5-0 victory with goals from Matthew Simcox, Matthew Johnson, Matthew Garbutt and two from Nathan Mohun. Norton went on to finish the day with a 0-0 draw and 7-0 demolition of some Scottish opposition, to cap a great first day.

The second day started well for Norton gaining a 1-0 victory after a brilliant drive from almost the halfway line from Max Craggs that went straight into the top corner. With Norton already safely into the knock-out stages, they could relax in the final game and played some great football resulting in a 1-0 victory. Callum Ridley and David Green were strong in defence and with midfielders Jamie Barton and Thomas Harding and striker Chris Horsley having great games, it gave the opponents a lot of defending to do. Ste Mackey was in good form in the Norton goal and Norton gained another clean sheet.

Norton cruised through the semi-final with a 4-0 victory over Newcastle East End. Norton defender Nicky Thomas was reliable as ever and broke up a lot of Newcastle's attacks. Norton met Wolves Boys in the final and after a nervous 0-0 full time score, went to score three goals in the second half of extra time through Max Craggs and two from Jack Puckering. Norton goalie Thomas Johnson was brilliant as ever with some fantastic saves to make sure Norton kept another clean sheet which meant Norton had not conceded a goal in all seven matches which capped off a brilliant weekend for parents and players.

In league action Norton Under-10s started the stronger side against NASC and were soon two goals up through Nathan Mohun and Matthew Garbutt. Aycliffe got back into the game with a goal just before half-time. Norton came out strong again in the second half and played some great football. Matthew Simcox won the ball from the Aycliffe attacker and fed the ball down the line for Matthew Garbutt to cross a great ball into the box for Nathan Mohun to slot home. Norton's left wing dynamo Matthew Johnson took on two Aycliffe defenders and after his first shot was knocked straight back to him, he coolly slid the ball into the bottom corner. Aycliffe got their second late on, but it could not stop Norton gaining a 4-2 victory and clinching second spot. Norton defenders Max Craggs and Nicky Thomas were as reliable as ever and Goalie Thomas Johnson once again pulled off some excellent saves when Aycliffe managed to sneak through.

The Under-9s went into the Haggerston Castle Tournament in good form and excellent spirit after finishing third in their league.

They had a 5-0 win in which Lewis Wing scored a great hat-trick, David Roth and Michael Bond also scoring.

The second game was a closer affair with Norton winning 1-0 with Wing once again scoring. Many chances went missing but Norton kept their discipline with captain Tom Blakemore, centre half Liam Woodhouse and keeper Jack Griffiths all in excellent form.

The Ancients won the next game 3-2 with Aidan Cattermole opening his account, Wing added a second with his trademark 20-yard thunderbolt. Daniel Chesser was controlling the midfield and his through ball sent Josh Peadon flying down the left to place his shot into the bottom corner.

The final match of the last day saw a tired Norton show what a brave side they have become, coming from 1-0 down at half time to win 2-1 with Wing scoring both goals. Blakemore, Woodhouse, Roth and Bond all put in massive performances that left Norton top of the league with a 100 per cent record after the first day.

On the Sunday, Norton played Bedlington Terriers who were also unbeaten, knowing that a win would take them to the final. They hit the ground running with Cattermole (the smallest man on the pitch!) heading home Woodhouse's perfect corner kick. Blakemore then sent Wing away and his cross found Cattermole who produced great skill to round the defender and slot home his and Norton's second. Keeper Griffiths was rarely troubled but his throw to Chesser opened Bedlington up and he played in Roth to set up Bond who crashed his first time shot into the top corner. Cattermole then completed a fine hat-trick after great work from Peadon down the left.

The last game in the league stage saw Norton make changes to their formation to rest all players at some point for the final. This saw Jack Griffiths come out of goal and play centre forward. He was unlucky not to have his name on the scoresheet with the opposition keeper pulling off some fine saves. In the end, Norton's player of the tournament David Roth sealed victory with two well taken goals to take the Ancients into the final with a 100 per cent record.

The final against Bedlington was to be a much tighter affair than the morning's exchange with both defences on top. Tom Blakemore, Liam Woodhouse and Josh Peadon all played well to keep Bedlington at bay. Man of the match Woodhouse almost scored with a bullet header from the influential Wing's corner. Griffiths made the Bedlington forward shot wide after coming bravely off his line just before half-time. David Roth combined well with Lewis Wing to create a scoring opportunity for Cattermole who made no mistake with only five minutes left of normal time. Norton brought on Michael Bond and Daniel Chesser to steady the ship and Norton were deserved tournament winners top scoring with 18 goals and only conceding three.

This was a fantastic weekend for Norton, and the children did themselves, their parents and the club manager proud not only with their football but also the way they behaved over the weekend.
