HOUGHALL College opens its doors to the public on Sunday to give a flavour of some of the rural and rustic activities performed on site.
As well as a chance to see the livestock and some of the machinery in action, there will also be demonstrations of agricultural and horticultural skills taught at Houghall, now part of East Durham College.
Among the attractions will be a horse-logging event in which up to ten competitors from round the country will guide Clydesdales, cobs, ponies, shires and Shetlands, through a range of disciplines of timber haulage.
The event has been organised by the British Horse Loggers, the independent national association overseeing the craft, and will take place throughout the day, in Houghall woodland and on the site showfield.
Houghall's grounds, off the A177 Durham to Shincliffe road, opposite Maiden Castle, are open from 10am to 4pm and admission is free.
