Mount Pleasant Rangers Under-12s A won the Wiggington Tournament recently.
The Under-12s, sponsored by Magnet Ltd, played in the tournament at York and in their first game against Wiggington B won convincingly 4-0 with scorers being Craig Swainston, Nick Petch, Nathan Wilson and Ben BT Turnbull.
The next game was against Real Cliffe A which they won a goal to nil. Rangers scorer was Nick Petch.
The third game saw them play against Brompton who they beat 1-0 with a Wilson goal.
The fourth and final qualifying game saw them play against local rivals 21st Colts White who they beat convincingly 5-0 with Wilson (3), Swainston and Petch scoring as keeper Tom Smalley did not concede a single goal in this round.
The quarter final saw them play a strong and determined North Ormesby who wanted the victory as bad as Rangers. The game was tight and end to end which ended in penalties after a 0-0 draw after extra time.
The penalties were tense but Rangers came out the victors after some superb goalkeeping from Tom Smalley. Rangers won 4-3 with Wilson, Petch, Smalley and Matthew York hitting the net.
The semi-final was against Bedale and after some lovely passing football Rangers won deservedly 3-1 with captain Swainston grabbing a hat-trick.
The final was against Bedlington Tigers who gave it their all but Rangers kept the pressure on and won 2-1. The Rangers scorers were Wilson and Petch.
The Under-12s B team played against Bedale in the first game and held a 0-0 draw. The second game saw them against a strong local side, Haxby Town who won 2-1. Rangers scorer was Lewis Elward with his first goal for Rangers. The third game was against local rivals 21st Allstars who won with a single goal. The fourth and final qualifying game was against Darlington Albion who they beat 1-0 with Dion Sung scoring.
