The first Young Athletes League meeting of the season was held at Darlington on Sunday, May 9. Shildon fielded a total of 22 athletes in both boys and girls and 12 of them achieved national standards.
Most notable performance of the day was achieved by Kate Avery gaining a grade 1 standard in the Girls U13 1200m winning by almost 100m in a time of 4:04.
Other competing teams were Birtley, Jarrow, Blackhill, Darlington, Sunderland and Durham.
