In athe crunch clash with League leaders, Brancepeth GC, the Woodham Mens Team, sponsored by Turners of Sedgefield Ltd, produced a table-topping performance to win 9-5 and replace the visitors at the top of the North Durham Golf League.

Five of the seven matches went to the 18th hole. Tony Stafford kept up his superb start to the season with another 3 & 1 win. Shaun Goad came through to win 1 up on the 18th as did late replacement Peter Moralee who played a stunning approach shot to within 4 feet on the 18th. James Ivil had a comprehensive 8 & 7 win. Mark Hodgson completed the Woodham scoring with a hard fought half. Club Captain, Steve Haslam said: "That was top of the table class performance and great golf, I was particularly pleased with the team spirit."

The ever popular 3 Man Texas Scramble on Saturday 8th May 2004 was won with a nett 62.4 by C.J.Miller, M.Scott & C.Walker. Low Handicappers Lee McCavanagh, Tony Stafford and James Ivil were second with a nett 63.2, with Tom Taylor, Dave Bowman and D.C.Brown 3rd on nett 63.6

Graeme Bell and Paul Wade go on to play in Scotland in the Finals of the Forsters International 4BBB after winning the qualifying round on Sunday, May 9 with a superb 47pts. Dale Ryder & Dave Morgan pushed them close with 46 pts. Club Captain Steve Haslam and arch lost ball finder George Smith were third on 43pts.

On Sunday, May 9 in-form Tracy Pearse won the May Lowery Medal with a superb nett 68. Janice Blakey with a nett 72 and Viv Fitzsimons with a nett 73 filled the next places.

Congratulations go to Andrew Shaw for his success in the Under 13 year olds nine hole stableford for May. This competition also incorporated the Easter Egg competition for under 13 year olds, which had to be postponed because of bad weather. Andrew, who is still only 10 years old, scored 20 stableford points for his 9 holes.

The Ladies League teams have got off to a tough start to their League Season losing their first three matches. They went down 4.5 to 2.5 to Heworth GC on 4th May, Woodham's winners were Chris Quinn & Brid Keane, with Jean Sutton getting a half. The same evening they lost again this time To Durham City GC, by four and a half to a half, Tracey Hahn getting the half point for Woodham. There was a better performance two days later when they narrowly lost -pts to 4pts to 3pts to Dinsdale Spa GC. Chris Quinn, Kay Mott and Jean Sutton gaining points for Woodham.

A four man team consisting of Mark Borsberry, Craig Johnston, David Kelly and Michael Fearman represented Woodham in The PD Cowell Trophy held by DCJGS at Roseberry Grange on May 3.

Although they were unable to finish at the top of the leaderboard, all of the boys performed fairly well on a day that was cold, windy and hammered them with rain and hailstones. Marks score of nett 72 was especially impressive and is yet another very good round of golf from someone who is in fine form at present.

The Junior Section's first match of the season was a home fixture against Darlington Golf Club.

Results: Mark Borsberry - won; Sean Kay - lost; Craig Johnston - won; Daniel Young - lost; David Kelly- lost. Final result: Woodham 4- 6 Darlington.

It was back to cold and wet conditions for the Midweek Stableford on Wednesday, May 5 which was won by Michael Hill with 38 points. On a generally low scoring day Jeff Doidge was second with 37 pts., beating David Preston on the same score but with a better back six.
