Auckland Area CIU League: Eldon Lane will meet West Auckland in the two-legged final after both came through their semi-finals with narrow victories.
West Auckland cut it very close against Old Shildon and were almost taken to the decider. West had won the first leg by the odd point and were stretched to the limits when Old Shildon visited for the return.
There was a good darts return for West, who had wins from Robert Douthwaite, Neil Pinkney, Tony Mundell and Brian Denham, whilst Michael Aldworth replied. Old Shildon fought back to take dominoes by the odd point with wins from Alan Hobson, Keith Gittens and Alan Bell, whilst Jimmy Singlewood and Ian Bowes replied.
Old Shildon also won the whist by the odd point with points from Alan Hobson, Colin Bell and Michael Aldworth, whilst Ian Bowes and Jimmy Singlewood again scored for the home side. West took the pool by the odd point with wins from John Richardson, Chris Kitch and Jimmy Singlewood with Michael Aldworth and Phil Cleasby replying.
The final place rested on the fives and three where the score went to two each with John Collingwood and Keith Gittens winning for Old Shildon and Alan Bell and Ronnie Williams. A win in the final game would have forced a play-off but John Richardson became West Auckland's hero when he won to take his team to the final with a 26-24 victory.
Eldon Lane held a 15-10 lead from the first leg when they visited Cockton Hill to complete the match. The home side had good wins in the dominoes and pool with Eldon only collecting one point in each when Keith Younghusband won at dominoes and Terry Race at pool. The Hill's dominoes winners were Harry Ellison, Tommy Ward, Brian Singlewood and Alan Lithgoe, whilst Peter Race, Dennis Race, Russell Place and Alec Drennan won at pool.
The good darts and whist results put Eldon Lane on a winning route with Billy Percival Colin Patterson and Stephen Weldon scoring at darts and Alan Race, Raymond Race, John Bell and Ronnie Thompson taking whist points.
In the fives and threes Eldon were 2-1 ahead but did not need to finish for Raymond Race clinched the necessary 26th point when he beat David Bousen at whist.
