MOTHERS and babies celebrated the value of breast-feeding yesterday at a party in Darlington.
About 35 members of the Darlington Breast-feeding Support Group staged the event to mark national Breast-feeding Awareness Week.
Pregnant women also joined in the fun at Darlington Memorial Hospital and learned about the importance of breast-feeding.
Darlington Primary Care Trust health visitor Kath Lane said: "It provides babies with the best start by far.
"It is natural, the milk is designed for the individual baby and it even helps mums get their figures back quicker."
Yukito Tsoi, of Darlington, said: "It's fantastic, much better for my daughter Iris, who is gaining weight fast."
Mother of six-week-old Curtis, Samantha Stonehouse, agreed.
She said: "I think it is definitely a good thing and makes you feel like you are doing something worthwhile."
Edwina Bryant, who had daughter Isabelle two weeks ago, said: "I think it is healthy for the mum, gives the babies a better start and it's a lovely bond. It's also a lot less hassle."
