COUNCILLOR Maude Gray has been appointed Mayor of Great Aycliffe.
Councillor Gray took over the chains of office from Councillor Malcolm Iveson at the council's annual meeting this week.
Coun Iveson said he had enjoyed a wonderful year, adding: "I've thoroughly enjoyed it, I've met people from far and wide and I've been proud to represent the council."
Former leader Bob Fleming proposed the vote of thanks to the outgoing mayor.
Accepting her new role, Coun Gray said: "I regard it as an honour and a privilege to accept the position. I will endeavor to carry out my duties in the dignified manner that the position deserves."
Coun Gray said her chosen charities for the year would be the St John Ambulance Blue Light Appeal and the Pease Way medical centre, in Newton Aycliffe.
Deputy mayor will be Councillor Val Raw.
Coun Iveson was appointed council leader, with Coun Chris Wheeler as his deputy.
