A HUGE bug designed by children is the latest art feature to be installed on the Great Aycliffe Way.
The children's representation of a ladybird has been installed along the walk near its junction with Woodham Way, in Newton Aycliffe.
The concept of the ladybird artwork came from a visit by a member of the Great Aycliffe Town Council's staff to St Oswald's Pre-School Learning Centre where the children were drawing and making models of the bugs.
The ladybird was reproduced in metal, and painted by a fabrication company.
A spokesman for the council said: "Although not an entirely accurate representation of a ladybird it is a realistic reproduction of the children's own interpretation.
"Now that the bug is in residence, it is intended that the children will visit the site to make sure it has been reproduced according to specification."
