A COUPLE from Darlington are celebrating their golden wedding anniversary today.
Colin and Pat Hardy, of Harrowgate Hill, put the success of the past 50 years down to "a bit of give and take" in their relationship.
The couple, who are both 70, first met at West Auckland School when they were 11. They began courting when they were 18.
They married on May 15, 1954, at West Auckland Methodist Church, and lived for many years in Barton, near Darlington.
Mr Hardy worked on a farm, while his wife was an auxiliary nurse at Bishop Auckland General Hospital.
The couple live with their son, Philip, 43, and have a daughter, Christine, 49, who is married with two children.
"Nobody knows if their marriage will get this far, but I'm very proud of the fact ours has," said Mrs Hardy.
"I'd say the secret to our success is having a bit of give and take."
They will be celebrating the anniversary with a family meal at the Bay Horse, in Ravensworth, near Richmond, tomorrow.
