FOUR people have been arrested in a police crackdown on the illegal sex trade.
Women aged 53 and 21 and a 27-year-old man were questioned yesterday in connection with the running of a brothel. A 46-year-old man was arrested for soliciting a prostitute.
The arrests, part of Operation Sabre, were made during a police raid at a house in Garnet Street, Middlesbrough, on Thursday night.
The 46-year-old man, from Northallerton, North Yorkshire, who was arrested for soliciting a prostitute, will be reported for summons.
Sergeant Paul Higgins, of Cleveland Police, said: "This raid was part of Middlesbrough police's ongoing campaign to clear the streets of prostitution.
"We are determined to rid the area of its red light image."
