THE sixth motorcyclist this year has been killed on a county's roads despite a hard-hitting police campaign to cut the number of biker deaths.
The man, named yesterday as Peter John Overend, 37, from Gilberdyke, East Yorkshire, is the fourth biker to be killed in North Yorkshire this month.
He died after an accident outside Squires Caf Bar, on the B1222 near Sherburn-in-Elmet, at 5.20pm on Thursday.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said he was involved in a collision with the rear end of a vehicle, which threw him into the path of oncoming traffic.
Mr Overend was taken to St James's Hospital in Leeds, but was later pronounced dead.
Last year, 28 motorcyclists died on North Yorkshire's roads and last month, the county's police force launched a tough enforcement campaign, with high profile patrols and a series of action days taking place.
Police are investigating Thursday's accident, and are appealing for any witnesses to contact them on (01904) 669884.
