A GROUP of 16 youngsters have visited an animal centre as part of a "spider challenge".
First Thirsk Beavers were given a tour of the Blue Cross Centre, in Topcliffe, on Saturday, to see the animals and hand over a hamper of pet food.
The visit was part of the 2004 Sammy the Spider challenge, which involves groups across the country as part of the 18th anniversary celebrations of the Beavers.
Each group has to build a spider and add a leg each time a challenge is completed.
The trip to the animal centre fulfilled one of the criteria for Thirsk Beavers, who are all aged from five to seven.
Beaver helper Elaine Almack said: "They enjoyed the visit immensely and we will now be able to add another leg to our spider.
"They will all get a mark towards their pets at home badge as well."
