THREE pupils have been recognised for 100 per cent attendance in five years at school.

The trio from West Redcar Community School have not missed a day in that time, even for sickness.

Adrian Bowers, Penny Wilson and James Wilson, all 16 and from Redcar, were treated to a chauffeur-driven ride in a limousine around east Cleveland, paid for by the school, in recognition of their commitment.

It was their last day at school - all three are to continue their studies at college.

Penny said: "I hope our good attendance will not only be a good role model for future year groups, but that it will also stand us in good stead for the future when we start looking for employment. We understand how important that kind of commitment is in a job."

Chris McCormack, home school liaison officer at the school, which recently attained performing arts status, said: "We award good attendance at the school. Attendance has improved dramatically in recent years. Five years ago, it was 83 per cent, but now it is just under 90 per cent, just two per cent less than the national average.

"These three have proven that it is achievable to the rest of the students. One hundred per cent attendance just isn't common enough in schools.

"The more the pupils learn, the better qualifications they'll get and the better jobs they will get in the end."
