A MUSIC festival marking its 80th birthday is under way.
Consett Music Festival, which started at the weekend, is regarded as a platform for talented youngsters and features brass bands, choirs and aspiring young musicians from across the region.
To mark the anniversary, new trophies will be on offer at the event, held in Blackfyne Community School, Consett.
These include the Festival Committee prize for the most outstanding performance, while festival president Joe Parker, who also celebrates his 80 th birthday this year, has donated £80 as a prize for the best adult singer.
The second round of judging starts on Friday.
In September, there will be a celebration evening at St Patrick's Church Hall, Consett, when past festival participants will provide the entertainment.
The committee is also compiling an exhibition of archive material from past events.
