MORE companies in the region offer flexible working than anywhere else in the UK, a survey has found.
A year after legislation that gave working parents the right to request flexible working hours from employers, 43 per cent of companies in the North-East are offering flexible working options, according to the Business in Britain survey, by Lloyds TSB Corporate.
Flexible contracts and working hours were found to be a major boon for staff retention, with more than 40 per cent seeing improved staff morale following the introduction of flexible working and more than half saying being a more adaptable had helped them retain staff.
Steve Bond, commercial relationship director for the North-East for Lloyds TSB Corporate, said: "It is very encouraging to see that so many North-East firms have established work options for staff.
"With competition for talent so fierce, companies need to look for ways to be employees' first choice. Being a flexible employer can make the difference."
