COMMUNITY life will be celebrated at a fun-filled outdoor event later this summer.
Aykley Heads estate, alongside Durham Police headquarters and the grounds of County Hall, Durham, is the venue for Action Packed Futures, 2004.
The event will be a chance to showcase the activities of community groups and organisations to share information about the work they do to help sustain their local environment and communities.
The event will feature a programme of entertainment including the Weapons of Sound, an innovative band which uses recycled materials as instruments.
Among others attractions are an environmental magician, a BMX trick show, the Newcastle All-Stars steel orchestra and birds of prey.
Visitors will be able to walk around a virtual village which will be created on site, complete with shops, homes, school, health centre and a village green which will provide the stage for a full programme of entertainment.
Other participation activities include wigwam making, bird boxes, badge-making, storytelling, interactive quizzes and games, football, trial cycling, Dr Bike bicycle checks, plus activities by Durham Fire Service, police and hospital radio.
Action Packed Futures 2004 takes place on Sunday, July 4, from 11am to 5pm.
Further information on the event and transport details are available on 0191-370 9559.
