THE Pope has canonised an Italian doctor who sacrificed herself in childbirth. In 1962 Gianna Beretta Molla refused to have her fourth child aborted even though she knew she had a cancerous tumour in her womb.
Clearly a brave and determined woman of principle. On the other hand, for the sake of her fourth baby's life, she left that baby and three other young children without a mother. Funny thing, sainthood.
