A CHARITY that helps people cope with debt is celebrating its first anniversary in Durham.
Christians Against Poverty held an open day this week to raise awareness of its work in the city.
It helps people who are struggling to keep control of their finances.
Hardship handouts are not offered, but financial advice and a bank account to control debt is.
Centre manager Janet Adams said: "We find that some people can only pay the charges and interest and not pay anything off the capital they borrowed.
"It becomes like a big, black hole, so we negotiate with the creditors and help the client in court to take the pressure off them."
The Durham office has had 45 inquiries since it opened and has taken on 14 clients.
It is expecting to have its first debt-free success story soon.
To find out more, visit the office in Front Street, Framwellgate Moor, or call 0191-375 0148.
