A HARDWARE store in Middlesbrough is closing for the final time on Saturday, temporarily ending its long association with the town.
Scorers Home Smart, in the Cleveland Centre, is shutting because the site is not large enough to cater for the firm's expanding range.
The company started selling tools and traditional household wares in the town in the early 1900s until the late 1970s before reopening a store in the town centre in 1993.
Company director Ashley Hornsey said: "We, like every other retailer, must expand and change our product offering to suit our customer's wishes. This led to the store in Middlesbrough not being suitable for our requirements and too small to deliver our full product range."
Staff at the Cleveland Centre store will be re-located to other branches in Billingham and Hartlepool until a more suitable site can be found in Middlesbrough.
