MAGNIFICENT Leadgate Golden Lion ended a devastating season with two more trophies to write their names into the league record books. By clinching the Jackie Grigg Memorial Trophy and the Consett Charity Cup, the Lion have won every competition they entered.

However they must have feared the worst in the Charity Cup when they trailed 1-0 to Stateside at the break who netted through Lee Garfoot.

Mark Turner eventually levelled it up and then Gary Taylor pounced for the all important winner with virtually the last kick of the game.

In the Jackie Grigg final, Golden Lion saw off Lanchester Social 3-1 with Turner again on the mark along with Chris Soulsby and Ian Davison with the village outfit replying through Michael Pitt.

Emergency Services League

Tyne & Wear Fire secured a league and cup double this past week. Firstly they retained their League title when they took four points from Derwentside and Stockton. They beat Derwentside 3-1 and then drew 1-1 with Stockton to give them a four point gap over nearest rivals Langbaurgh with only one game remaining. Langbaurgh will remain second, their highest finish for some considerable time after an excellent season. Stockton cannot close the gap on third placed Durham HQ who fell away towards the seasons' end, as their team were blighted with injuries to their forwards.

Tyne & Wear and Durham HQ met in the League Cup final at the Nissan ground Washington last Monday night. Durham HQ had all of their first choice forwards missing, but their absence was not notable in the first period. After a very even start, it was HQ who took the lead. Chris Robinson broke clear on the left and got the ball past the keeper, but just as it appeared to be rolling wide, Paul Jackson slid in to score. HQ had their tails up and pressed the Fire team back. Lee Tooke doubled the lead with five minutes to go to the break, latching on to some sloppy defending and slotting the ball past the keeper.

Tyne & Wear came out fired up after the break and reduced the arrears within five minutes when, Kevin Farrell headed in from close range following a corner.

From that moment on, it was one way traffic and it was inevitable that the equaliser would come. It was Lee Graham who was able to fire it home, after some poor defending. Tyne & Wear continued to press throughout but it was only five minutes to go that they took the lead, with Danny Fisher heading the winner for his side.

The Wanless McConnell Shield is yet to be resolved, with Durham HQ entertaining Darlington and Durham Fire playing Stockton in the semis.
