Darlington Spraire Lasses Under-13s had to raise their game for the annual Leeds City Vixens Tournament Under-14s five-a-side competition but were unable to make the quarter finals even though they did not lose a match.
Spraire started the competition strongly with a convincing win over hosts Leeds Vixens with Jordan Atkinson slotting home a neat goal following some strong play from Laura Gowling. The following two games ended 0-0 against Morley Spurs and White Rose. Spraire needed to win their final game against Lumley to stand a chance of reaching the quarter finals, Laura Gowling opened the scoring for Spraire but the lead was shortlived as Lumley equalised then took the lead two minutes later.
Spraire battled to the final whistle levelling the score just before full time, but a 2-2 scoreline meant Spraire were heading back up the A1 earlier than hoped.
At the same tournament Spraire Under-12s battled hard with an outstanding goalkeeping performance from Montana Jowett. Lauren Claxton also starred scoring an outstanding goal. Hannah Marshall scored direct from a corner. Spraire finished second in the group and lost in the knockout stages against Middlesbrough 2-0.
Spraire Lasses Under-10s had an equaliser disallowed for Leeds City Vixens having amazingly an extra player on the field, then lost the game 2-0.
They recovered to beat Pool & White Rose 2-0. Scorers included three each for Anna Young and Nicola Hookway, two from Beth Weller with a goal for debutant Natalie Rimmer from an acute angle.
Spraire Lasses beat Norton 4-2 having taken took control of the game quickly with an excellent hat-trick from Anna Young. Norton battled on and managed to get one back but just before the half time whistle. The second half proved harder with Spraire playing against the wind. Rebecca Millard made it 4-1. Norton managed to pull one back before the final whistle.
Playing at Cleveland A 0, Spraire played some excellent attacking football and managed to find the net at regular intervals. Nicola Hookway led the way scoring a great hat-trick. Other goal scorers were Beth Weller (2), Anna Young (2) and Rebecca Millard to complete an 8-0 win.
Managers Award went to Nicola Hookway for an outstanding performance.
