RESCUED dogs will go on a sponsored walk to raise money for the service that gave them new lives.
The Durham and District branch of the RSPCA has organised a four-mile walk along a nature trail from Houghall College, on the city's outskirts, for Sunday afternoon.
The charity, which takes in abandoned and abused dogs and finds them homes, is inviting dog owners and their pets to join in.
Committee member Audrey Parkinson said: "We are hoping we get about 50 dogs and their owners.
"Most of the dogs taking part were rescued by us and, happily, have been rehomed. All the money raised will be going to rehoming dogs in the district.
"It is a lovely walk that goes through a bluebell wood, and the weather forecast appears good."
Mrs Parkinson said people who had taken in rescued dogs had given a good response to the branch's request for participants.
The walk starts at 2.30pm and entry is free.
