THREE year 11 pupils at a Barnard Castle school have won free places to a week-long summer school held at one of the region's universities.
Amy Metcalfe, Natalie Charlton and Paula Rogers, from Teesdale Comprehensive School, will attend the Aim Higher summer school at the University of Teesside, in Middlesbrough, in August.
During the week, the students will stay in university accommodation, attend a series of lectures and enjoy social activities to gain experience of what university life is like.
The girls are all sitting their GCSEs this summer and are planning to go to Teesdale Sixth Form College in September.
They hope that, by experiencing university life, they will have a clearer idea of what higher education can offer them after A- levels.
