In the Bradford No1 AA Pauling Cup held on Raskelf Lake near Easingwold fish failed to show in numbers for the capacity entry.

In heat wave conditions anglers had to work hard for bites but undeterred Waterline Wibsey's Colin Hardy showed his class not only lifting the cup for the third year running but also winning off an unfancied draw.

Fishing peg 20 in the bay, Colin skilfully worked his pole at ten metres over chopped worm to locate 2 bream, 2 skimmers and an ide to weigh in 11.1.0 and steal the honours.

Bradford's Geoff Cox slipped into second place netting 10.15.0 off peg 46 as skimmers and a single tench all responded to the pole and worm.

Middlesbrough AC Midweek Series - Hutton Rudby Ponds: 1 G Wilson (Middlesbrough) 11.10.0; 2 R Thompson (Middlesbrough) 5.3.0; 3 S Johnson (Middlesbrough) 3.14.0.

Carp scene

A staggering new record of 172.8.0 set at the Woodland Lakes during Friday's Clubman Semi Finals had Saturday's 104 hopefuls all fired up for some serious carp action.

The famous venue certainly lived up to expectations producing an unbelievable 5 'ton-up' bags at the conclusion.

Red hot Partridge dominated the score sheet with the top five all pegged there as the venue's carp went on a pre-spawning feeding frenzy.

A delighted Mark Coyne pulled out Partridge 16 on the day and found the area packed with loads of carp.

The infamous Map Elton rod nearly broke the record within 24 hours when he hammered home a huge net of 163.8.0.

Catching essentially on the deck at seven metres, Mark then went into overdrive pushing out to 13 metres tempting a mixture of fish including carp to 8.0.0 up in the water with triple red maggot over loose fed casters.

The tactics were the same off the 'record breaker' Partridge 18 but the stakes were high and North Ormesby's Dave Bell couldn't keep up the blistering pace and had to settle for 127.1.0.

Others in the frame: Chris Gowling (Shimano Quaker) 120.9.0. Ian Bowman (Maver Barnsley) 107.10.0 and Dave Harris (CAC) 103.14.0.

Sunday's Oak Whizzo Match on Cedar Pool resulted in local ace Chris Hall yet again notching up another victory.

Chris on peg 46 fished over to the far shelf offering pellet on the pole at 13 metres to tempt a string of small carp throughout for 67.3.0.

In contrast Colmic's Tony Hopkins found all his carp feeding close in on the pole and pellet at 4 metres for 63.7.0.

Bread made for the most successful bait during a Bob Co Spring Series scorcher at Moor Monkton's Carpvale Fishery.

Harrogate Nomad's Steve Grainger quickly disposed of last week's winner John Fletcher by just 3ozs.

Steve drew the Match Lake and opted for the tip bomb and bread off peg 49 to net 8 carp for 42.8.0.

It was more of the same bomb and bread attack for Ripon's John Fletcher on Cyprio's peg 12 but his 11 carp registered an agonising 42.5.0.
