The second round took place on Sunday at Durham City and, batting first, Hetton Lyons scored 87 all out with Owen Gwyn scoring an unbeaten 48 runs and Ryan Talbot scoring 26.
Durham City bowler Josh Moore took two wickets for one run in four overs. In reply, Durham City scored 83 for eight wickets in their 20 overs. Johnny Harding top scored with 22 not out and Andrew Howson contributed with 16. Hetton Lyons bowler Ryan Talbot took 3 wickets for 6 runs in 4 overs. Hetton Lyons won the game and progressed to the semi final of the cup.
Durham City
Durham City played the first round of the Federation Special Durham Senior League Under-15 cup on Tuesday 18th May at Durham City. Gateshead Fell batted first and scored 81 for 7 with Joel Errington scoring an unbeaten 45 runs. Durham City bowler Gareth Pratt took 1 wicket for 3 runs in 4 overs. Batting second Durham City scored 82 with loss of only 1 wicket. Gareth Pratt top scored with 53 not out and Stephen Howson scored 17 not out. Durham City won the game by 9 wickets and progressed to the next round of the cup which will be played on Sunday 23rd May 2004 at Durham City.
Castle Eden
Castle Eden Under-15s played their first game of the season in the club's centenary year on Friday after previous games had been called off because of the wet conditions. The Alf Armes Cup match took place in the bright evening sunshine at the picturesque ground.
Castle Eden batted first and put on 131 runs for 1 wicket with excellent performances from Jonathon Malkin who ran up 27 and a commanding innings from Keith Bailey with 62 not out. The great performance carried on in the field with some excellent bowling from Callum Harding 4 overs, 2 wickets for 3 runs, Ross Kirtley 4 overs, 2 wickets for 7 runs and a Man of the Match performance from Gareth Elliott with 3 overs, 3 wickets for 13 runs.
Murton's reply was 45 runs for 8 wickets. This good start takes them into the next round of the cup where they will meet.
Castle Eden Under-13's , who during the winter were awarded 2003 Team of The Year for Easington District, started their Fred Foster Cup campaign in great style with a total of 128 for 3 wickets. A excellent opening partnership from Keith Bailey and Marc Grufferty, running up 29 each and great contribution from Ross Kirtley 17 not out and Christopher Freeman 19 not out gave Seaham Park a hard act to follow.
An excellent all round bowling performance, with all 10 bowlers used including an athletic 1 handed, diving catch from Martin Dunn secured a place into the next round. Gareth Elliott 2 overs 1 wicket from 7 runs, Craig Thirlaway 2 overs 2 wickets fro 6 runs, Callum Harding 3 overs 1 wicket for 6 runs, Ross Kirtely 3 overs 1 wicket for 14 runs. A captains performance by Keith Bailey was the highlight of the match with 4 overs 3 wickets for 4 runs, this included an all bowled hat trick for Keith who was Man of the Match.
