MARIE Predki has been appointed Mayor of Sedgefield Borough.
Councillor Predki took over the chains of office from Councillor George Gray at Sedgefield Borough Council's annual meeting yesterday.
Accepting the honour, she said: "I'm looking forward to the challenge and responsibilities this year will give me."
Coun Predki, whose husband, Tom, will be her official consort, has nominated the Butterwick Hospice in Bishop Auckland as her charity for the year.
The deputy mayor for the year is Councillor John Piggott, who missed the ceremony because he is in hospital awaiting an operation.
Coun Predki presented her predecessor with a medal to commemorate his year in office.
Earlier, Coun Gray announced that he had raised £10,561 during the year for his chosen charities.
